Technology System Integration

Build up a digitalized system to give quick testing for an ESG solution.

2022 Summer internship.
At TSMC, the IT Divisions are broken up into two types of internally used systems: a corporate-related system (e.g. ERM), and a technology-related system where the unit I work in. We develop operating systems related to manufacturing and Fab.

Experience

I am honored to be the first UX Designer in this IT Division.

All of my colleagues are engineers, so I used my expertise to input different cultures into the team.

I had 3 main roles during my internship:

- UX Designer
- UX Consultant
- People-centric Cultural Facilitator

I Not only collaborate with other colleagues on projects - discussing user needs and technical feasibility - I also took the initiative to share my work with our teams and suggested things I would like to contribute to the team, such as a daily e-newsletter and additional design workshops.

Won 1st prize in TSMC IT intern hackathon.

Outcome

Due to NDA, I can’t share specific details about my projects.

1. Creates more design possibilities for equipment engineers (EE) to experiment with operational processes- designed a feature concept of a semiconductor manufacturing experimentation platform.

2. Built up the systems from 0 to 1 to achieve the ESG vision- designed a construction inspection system and a personnel construction-security inspection system.

3. Facilitate the understanding of user experience - planned and hosted 3 UX/UI workshops and wrote the daily UX newsletters for the whole colleagues in the IT department.

An overview of one of my internship projects: the construction inspection system.

Learning

1. Put people on the same page- It is necessary to clearly distinguish between speculation, assumption, and fact.

2. It makes me fit into the team culture faster when trying to get the team used to the designer's presence and improving the understanding of what I can help with.

3. Well-doing what can be done at the moment can build more trust rather than aggressively requesting design or research resources.
